The New Magnavox HDTV
Why purchase a new Magnavox HDTV? Because in early 2009 all television networks will begin broadcasting in only high definition. At the same time television manufacturers will be required to only build high definition TV's. The Magnavox has one of the clearest pictures on the market today.
The older analog type of television is not capable of displaying programming for HDTV. Instead, people can only view programs that would come through on satellite, cable, or regular television. On the other hand, with high definition, viewers can still view standard television programming, as well as HDTV signals and progressive scan DVD. Because this is the wave of the future, almost all new television sets use this special programming to include Plasma and LCD high definition television.
This new law going into effect for Magnavox HDTV and all other major brands means the sets will be designed with a built-in tuner. The tuner works by receiving programs with an antenna that come over the air. Again, for television sets without HDTV as a part of the new design, a tuner can be purchased or rented. While there are different prices, most cost around $125 to $150.
With LED HDTV, the resolution is the primary reason for the change. The clarity is so incredible that people watching sporting events, concerts, movies, or virtually any show will be amazed at how incredible the picture becomes. For example, the number of visible lines seen with standard programming is 480 but with a LCD high definition television, that number jumps to 1,080.scaling artifacts. To receive the best picture display, high definition televisions require a High Definition (HD) signal.
The Magnavox HDTV adapter box receives over-the-air digital TV broadcasts for viewing on a TV that does not have a built-in digital tuner. This allows those who cannot afford to or do not want to purchase an HDTV before February 2009 to still receive programming. A TV with the HD adapter will not produce pictures with as high a resolution though.
While it is possible to see the lines that make up standard television pictures, HDTV lines are not at all noticeable. The fine-grained HD picture contains five times more information than does the standard television picture and is accompanied by multi-channel, CD quality sound. The difference in video and sound quality is dramatic.
Resolution for this type of HDTV programming uses outstanding resolution along with the progressive scan found with 720p. With true 1080p, you would usually find this being used for HD DVD since the major networks of LED HDTV or LCD high definition television have yet to launch it for broadcasting.
When shopping around for any type of HDTV as a new unit, it is important to learn all you can about this new type of programming and the clarity it provides. As mentioned, the main televisions brands are joining in the race to offer the best HDTV and for the best price. While there are some that have succeeded quite well, Magnavox HDTV is considered one of the best considerations.
Comcast Xfinity Skype webcam for cable boxes revealed by FCC (Engadget)
About six months after we first heard Comcast would release a Skype webcam
built for its cable boxes _Wireless Goodness_ has uncovered the FCC filing for
just such a unit. There's no pictures of the device itself, but scans from the
manual and the diagram above give a good idea of the experience available,
including the ability to have video as an overlay on top of TV content, or as
a picture-in-picture. Video and audio calls are both possible, as well as
instant messaging, and while the Xfinity-branded camera itself clips onto your
flat-panel, a small adapter hooks into the set-top box. There's no word
whether or not we'll see this accessory on display at CES, but the timing
certainly lends itself to the possibility.
