How Store Wine At Home
If we always got what we wanted we would all wish for a lovely air-conditioned and air-circulated wine cellar. This would allow you to leave them well alone and yet know that they were in the best conditions for aging just right. Sadly, this is not often the case and so most of us need to use what we have available to us. Here is some top advice for storing your wine collection properly.
Location. Your bottles, both white and red wine, are best placed in a cool room, away from the light and with moderate humidity levels. The most efficient temperature for storage of your bottles should be between 10° and 16° C (50° to 61° F). Anything above this will cause a loss of wine quality and above 25° C will have serious adverse affects on the wines characteristics. The wine can change colour if left in direct light and also increase in temperature. The level of humidity in the room can cause the cork in the bottle to expand or contract. This can result in air forcing its way into the bottle and causing oxidation, a well known negative that occurs when wine has prolonged contact with oxygen.
Positioning. You should lay the wine bottles on their side or slightly elevated when in storage. This is due to the theory that if the cork is not in contact with the wine at all times it will lose its natural moisture and shrink. Oxidation (see previous explanation) can again result from this.
Display. You don’t allows want your wines tucked away in a dark room. Sometimes you want to bring them out for the world to see. A good choice would be a wooden wine cabinet because these tend to maintain a steady temperature and you can also store your wine glasses, dinnerware and other glassware etc in there too. Avoid any that have glass paneling as this can use the air temperature to increase due to the greenhouse effect.
How to display flat-screen TV in this room (picture included.)?
Here is our new living room.
As you can see there is a cutout area above the fireplace for a TV. It has power and a cable hookup in the cutout area. The hole is 20 inches deep and will comfortably fit a 40" Sony Bravia TV.
Is the logical solution to just use a base for the tv and set it in that hole?
Are there advantages to doing a wall-mount in this situation?
Thanks!
That hole was built so that you can wall-mount the television. You will need a tilting wall-mount so that you can angle the television towards your eyes. The tv will not look right on a stand.
As for connecting other devices, no problem. All you will need is some in-wall certified cables.
CES 2012: Lenovo Brings Apple's Touchscreen iMac Concept to Life (Macrumors)
Back in 2010, an Apple patent publication was published revealing the
company's concept for an iMac supporting both mouse-driven and touch-based
input with a hinged display arm allowing the screen to transition from an
upright position to a horizontal surface.
While Apple has yet to release such a product and may have scrapped the idea
entirely, Lenovo's new IdeaCentre A720 being shown off at CES this week (via
_Engadget_) offers a similar flexibility in its ability to transition between
a traditional all-in-one desktop configuration and a flat, table-top touch
surface.
> Similar to the HP TouchSmart 610, which debuted around this time last year,
it has a display that can be tilted between 5 and 90 degrees, the idea being
that that 10-point multitouch panel will be easier to use if it's lying at a
near-flat angle. Spec-wise, it'll be offered with various Intel Core i
processors, discrete NVIDIA graphics and up to either a 1TB HDD or a 64GB
solid-state drive. Expect it to hit sometime in the first half of this year,
starting at $1,299.
_The Verge_ also posts a hands-on video showing the IdeaCentre A720 in use in
both upright and horizontal positions.
The hands-on ...
