If the same then it is GPU causing problem otherwise you may be right about the lcd cable itself not the inverter though. inverter controls brightness that's it not the data coming from the GPU. Depends how the configuration is on the wiring though usually the lcd cable splits from single connection that goes to the motherboard to two output on the other end to connect to inverter and lcd panel itself.
