Functional Art In Home Decor

When you think about home decor, you start with the big things. Once the big items are out of the way, you add the little decorative items. Thanks to the multitudes of products available online today, no matter where you live, you can order the perfect accessories for your home. It can get expensive, though. When you're adding the finishing touches to your home, combine style with functionality to get the most out of your money.

Your living room needs a sofa and some chairs. It also needs a coffee table, at least a couple of side tables and good lighting. Once those absolute necessities are taken care of, then you look for the living room decor. You buy paintings or hang photographs, buy a vase or two and some nice nick-knacks to make the room look nice.

In your kitchen, the first thing you do is have kitchen cupboards installed. Then you look for the fridge and the stove. Then you move on to the smaller appliances like the microwave and toaster. Only when you have these items do you start thinking about the other kitchen implements and decorations.

Your knife set is a good example of this. You think of it as purely functional. Knives are used for preparing food, not for showing off, you think, so you hide them away in a drawer.

Think again. Does it really make sense to hide your beautiful Wusthof knife set in a drawer and leave your rather unattractive toaster on the bench top? In the course of the day, you will be using your kitchen knives much more often than your toaster, so in more ways than one it makes sense to put the toaster away and display the knives.

All you need to do is buy an inexpensive knife block set. With this for storing your knives, you will be accomplishing two things at once. Your knives will be within easy reach and they will be look stunning in their wooden block set.

You will be amazed by how a little change like this will transform your kitchen. You will get the most out of your knives because they will always be within easy reach. You have only one toaster and it is easy enough to take out of cupboard when you need it. Just by having a wooden knife block, you have made your kitchen more beautiful and more functional at the same time.

This is one example of how to combine decor with usefulness in the home. Those little nick-knacks that cost so much are forgotten when their novelty wears off, but functional art is always remembered and appreciated.

What Is The Next Dungeons & Dragons? (Game Informer)

Last week, Wizards of the Coast finally pulled back the curtain to reveal that
a brand new edition of the world's most well known role-playing game is on the
way. As the longtime centerpiece of the tabletop role-playing hobby, as well
as the chief inspiration for dozens of video games over the years, it's no
exaggeration to say that Dungeons & Dragons has had a profound influence on
gaming and gamers, whether you play at a table, in front of a screen, or some
combination of both.

The most recent edition of the game released in 2008 to mixed reaction from
fans. Its intricately balanced classes and highly tactical combat excited many
enthusiasts, and drew many new players into the fold. However, its
dramatically different approach to gameplay systems, non-combat encounters,
and highly specific rules alienated some, many of whom continued to play older
versions of the game, or switched to other role-playing systems.

Since its announcement last week, one feature of the newly announced edition
has been placed front and center; Wizards of the Coast wants to unite the
disparate groups of players who love the game, and craft a functional and fun
definitive version ...
