Computer Firewalls: Helping Your Company and You Control Computer Malfunction and Viruses

The Internet is a vast network of computers all over the world.  Indeed, it is a huge place, huge enough for all kinds of things to occur.  While the internet is home for individuals who seek information for research, school work, projects, papers, etc; sometimes this vast network turns into a site of undesirable things.  When you access the internet, in typical cases, you are making your computer exposed to this huge network.  The matter with this is that at times you may be exposed to cyber attacks that could damage your computer as well as the files within it.

This is why technologists designed a hardware or software that protects computers against hackers, viruses, and worms over the internet.  This is known as a firewall.  Computer firewalls defend computers from internet hackers who might acquire access to vital data.  This important information could be a private data from computer users themselves.  Without firewalls to block hackers, a person could lose his confidentiality on the internet and become exposed to cyber crime, which is not uncommon.  Hackers may damage data to initiate computer malfunction by embedding ruinous codes.  They may send viruses that can infect system computers of a specific establishment for example.

These software blockages put a stop to access of nasty traffic before they can even damage your computer.  A few of these firewalls prevent unknown users from manipulating your computer.  The setting up of these blockages is extremely necessary particularly if you constantly surf the internet.  A firewall operates by monitoring network traffic, keeping track of outgoing communication, and preventing unnecessary traffic from gaining access to your computer.  When you surf the web, it briefly unlocks the port to allow you to look at the page you requested which is the webpage or website you clicked.  However, it remains a primary protection against unrequested incoming communication.

Firewalls, nevertheless, do not inhibit entry of spam in e-mails, which causes much irritation to internet users.  Since most computer users normally have electronic mails, it is a necessity to set up spam filters to conserve time, hassle, and exasperation.  Without these email filters, unwanted messages with useless or even damaging material could saturate your inbox.

This protection offers the first line of shield only.  Thus, pc users may need to install other software that guards from other harmful agents like electronic mail viruses.  Upon establishing a firewall, an anti-virus program must also be installed, because besides protection from unnecessary internet traffic, computer virus protection is another critically vital part to be considered.

Protecting your computer is quite crucial because without this measure you put your computer, its files, and data at risk.  In business establishments, the computer security is of prime interest since prized data is exposed.  One destructive computer virus or software that manages to control the system could destroy all the day’s record and lead to work interference.  In huge business firms, this could mean a lot of monetary loss.

Central Florida police could soon have technology to scan, detect guns (local6)

Central Florida police have the technology to scan license plates from a
computer inside the car. They use this scanner to track wanted criminals and
find stolen cars, but that technology is nothing compared to what officers may
soon be able to use.

The military says it's close to perfecting a gun detector; a scanner that can
determine whether someone walking down the street is carrying a gun.

The technology is called Terahertz Imaging Detection.

This detector, which can be mounted inside a police car, measures the energy
radiating from someone's body from as far as 16 feet away.

If anything blocks the scan, an outline shows up on the screen.

New York City brought this technology to the military for further development
and testing.

But the question is, are these scans, which would be done without anyone's
knowledge, a violation of any privacy rights?

"I think it's all about invading people's lives more and more and more," said
one person we spoke with.

But others disagree saying, "I think it's good. People will be safer and it
will be a safer environment."

New York City plans to have its officers use the detectors only when they have
reason ...
