How To Choose A Digital Projector
We live in the digital age. We have digital cameras, digital recording equipment, digital projectors— just about digital everything. And digital projectors, which this article is to be about, have been made by different companies and also with different settings. They are used for many purposes; at the church where I often go, the lyrics to the hymns are projected on the wall. How does one choose which digital projector for his particular purpose?
Finding the answer is not nearly as complex as it sounds. There are three simple questions to be asked, and they are:
(1) What will the projector be used for? Do you want to project high- quality images and videos, or do want to show digital photographs or technical drawings? If the latter, you might want to use a projector of XGA resolution, which will be compatible with almost any Mac or PC you attach it to. If, on the other hand, you want to project a less detailed image, you might want to use one of the SVGA type instead.
(2) How many people, if any, will be in the picture? The more people you are going to include, the larger the image will need to be— and the higher the luminosity, as well.
(3) How much natural light will there be? The higher the level of ambient light, the greater the luminosity required of the projector. For a dark room, a projector of almost any luminosity will do.
Once you have solved these basic problems, there are questions of secondary importance to be considered, such as:
- Where will be the screen be located? Does it stand by itself, or does it hang from the ceiling?
- How can you place the screen so that everyone in the room will have a clear view of the projection?
- How much money do you have available to spend on a digital projector?
- How will you be transporting the digital projector? Will you be carrying it by yourself? Does it come with a carrying bag or wheels? Will you be taking it on board a plane?
- How high quality will the image to be? Will the audience be able to see the colors clearly? If text is in the image, can it be read easily?
- How easy is it to set up the projector?
- How easily can you operate the on- screen menu? Can you adjust the brightness and color if you need to?
- What about extra equipment, such as cables, bulbs, remote control? Do these come with the package, or are they sold separately?
- Until recently, most projectors have been of the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) type. But now, many makers are switching to DLP ® (Digital Light Process) projectors, which project a bigger, brighter, and better image.
With the right kind of digital projector, one can make an effective, successful business presentation. Image is of the essence when it comes to business. And it is a blessing to be living in the digital age.
what is anti-aliasing?
I have a DLP projector that run 1024 x 768 resolution.
It look great at 800x600 but the 1024 XGA res has the anti aliasing problem.
We are running a 100' 15Pin cable from laptop to projector.
I tried a VGADA, but that did not help much
Should I run a cat5 and use extenders?
I don't know what to tell you what to do but this is what Anti-Aliasing is:
Antialiasing is a software technique for diminishing jaggies - stairstep-like lines that should be smooth. Jaggies occur because the output device, the monitor or printer, doesn't have a high enough resolution to represent a smooth line. Antialiasing reduces the prominence of jaggies by surrounding the stairsteps with intermediate shades of gray (for gray-scaling devices) or color (for color devices). Giving the image a smoother look.
