Looking For T-Mobile G2 Accessories?
Unless you’ve been living under the proverbial rock, you’ve heard the big news regarding the T-Mobile G2 Android smartphone. The T-Mobile G2 takes the beloved G1 with its slide-out QWERTY keyboard and ups the ante with one-touch keyboard shortcuts, Android 2.2, an 800 MHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7-inch screen, a 5-megapixel camera, and a total of 12 GB memory in the default configuration. Users can increase that to as much as 36 GB. It also has Bluetooth, support for Flash, and even the new innovative Swype keyboard technique that has grown increasingly popular. The kicker is the early word is that consumers will be able to get the phone for as little as $149.99. That has us salivating, and already discussing which Google G2 accessories are the must-haves to protect and individualize our new phones.
Reading the T-Mobile press release and the various posts and tweets, one thing was clear. Just as they were on the G1, T-Mobile G2 screen protectors will be must haves. The early rumor of a built-in screen protector has been shot down. While we haven’t seen the exact screen that’s on the G2, we don’t have to know that it’s just as scratch-prone as the rest. ZAGG will have their Invisible Shield out shortly, and you can expect others to follow. If you buy only one accessory, a skin-style screen cover and case should be the one, which brings us to our second point.
The T-Mobile G2 smartphone seems to be a much bigger upgrade than the G1. Like the G1, it is also made mostly of plastic. A skin case will go a long way toward protecting it during regular use, but we also consider glove or holster cases to be must-have T-Mobile G2 accessories to protect against drops. Gloves are great for the clumsy since you can use the device without removing the protection. If you use a glove-style case, you’ll only need a screen protector rather than the whole skin. Holster-style is perfect for those G2 owners who want to protect the phone just while they are on the go. You can simply carry it that way, attach it to your belt, or slip it into a briefcase or purse.
After critics have expressed concerns over battery life, T-Mobile reduced the configuration to an 800 MHz Snapdragon from a 1 GHz Scorpion. We usually like to have an extra battery anyway, and certainly when we’re dealing with a juice-hungry smartphone. As far as chargers go, you don’t technically need one since it charges through micro-USB and includes the necessary wire. Nevertheless, we consider USB adapters to be a must-have, especially for travellers.
Lastly, we’d invest in a dashboard docking station. These are necessary for those that don’t have built-in USB ports, and they’re incredibly convenient for using your T-Mobile G2 while driving. In addition, while not technically a must-have, we think most customers will certainly take advantage of upgrading from the 8 GB MicroSD card to the 16 or 32 GB version. Apps are getting more amazing every day, and in the process, greedier with their storage requirements.
